Arizona’s Approved Research-Based SEI Models

Arizona has four research-based Sheltered English Immersion models that are approved to be utilized in their school system. These four models are Newcomer, Pull-Out, Two-Hour, and 50-50 Dual Language Immersion ( SEI program Model Implementation Guide, n.d.). The Newcomer model provides students with two forms of English instruction. First, newcomer students receive 120 minutes per day of targeted English language development instruction. This instruction is provided by certified ESL teachers and is based upon the individual needs of the student ( SEI program Model Implementation Guide, n.d.). The other form of English instruction is 120 minutes per day within the student's typical integrated setting.
